For some time now, we have been hearing voices about the fact that the traditional understanding of postgraduate studies is no longer relevant, that it no longer fulfills its function in the contemporary world. Are the authors of these ideas right and what is the reason for these opinions? <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Marcel ORENI\u010c: I think that these views are largely based on the fact that when it comes to traditional methods used in postgraduate study programs, they mainly concerned global companies and their global presence on the market. However, current market trends point to the need for a deep analysis of business focused on the local level. However, it is difficult to agree with the statement that the traditional method no longer fulfills its function, in other words, it is exhausted. In our opinion, presenting the operation of multinational companies is a certain element of building the image of the main management concepts. When it comes to companies operating at the local level, their often insufficiently built structures and management processes do not allow them to present the full spectrum of action, directed towards a successful business. Not all companies operating locally are suitable for implementing complicated business models and development strategies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

There is also talk of an alternative to the classic study of management, in the form of gaining experience in business in practice, under the supervision of an experienced mentor or mentors… <\/b><\/i><\/p>

We know that both in Slovakia and in the world there are different models of conducting these postgraduate study programs. The programs at our Institute focus on taking into account the expectations of its participants and local demand, where theory and practice are connected. This is reflected in the offer of study programs that we currently offer in Ko\u0161ice and in the recently opened detached workplace in Rimavsk\u00e1 Sobota, as well as online throughout Slovakia and abroad. However, in the near future, we plan to expand the offer of education in other cities, which is a response of those interested in studying to the growing needs of quality study. Secondly, our academic community consists of highly qualified teachers with many years of experience and practice in various fields, who have a significant share in building the scientific environment in Slovakia and abroad. They are also supported by skilled, young scientists who have gained their theoretical and practical experience at various prestigious foreign institutions. This provides us with a broad view of modern business and its international and often multicultural dimension. Thanks to this, our students and graduates gain a broad theoretical basis, enriched with practical possibilities of using the theories they have learned, which is served, among other things, by the workshops we offer them. Our pedagogical staff support them with their experience and knowledge, but this is not a typical mentoring character. We can see that the traditional combination of knowledge and practice leads to the achievement of a higher level and efficiency in education. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

How is what you offer reflected in these postgraduate programs in Slovakia and in the world? <\/b><\/i><\/p>

The best academic centers in the world that offer these studies offer various, often original solutions, taking into account the formation of demand in the scope of teaching, which is influenced by local business operations and ways of competition in business, along with global trends. The nature of the study in our country should build a business identity, connecting local conditions with the strategies of the best business entities from abroad. We can also see this in discussions during classes, when students, together with experienced lecturers, point out that often known and theoretically widespread management strategies are not adapted to the reality of our market.<\/i><\/p>

Slovakia is quite characterized by the fact that when it comes to the offer of postgraduate studies, this market is slowly oversaturated, but often with a low-quality offer of studies with the aim of making money, without the ambition to pass on the appropriate knowledge to their students, which I regret. In most cases, these programs focus on meeting the demand created by this market, understood as a clearly defined need of students that motivated them to pursue postgraduate studies. It is a standard scheme of operation \u2013 academic centers (as well as business entities in the sector) compete with each other, fighting for students in a certain closed segment. Our philosophy of education causes us to concentrate on finding and satisfying the needs of market segments, i.e. groups of people who have the desire and interest to expand and deepen their knowledge in various study programs, focused on the quality and prestige of the study program itself. We focus on creating and retaining new demand, which is mainly about finding it where it has not yet been created: we try to attract a group of students who, thanks to our activities, will feel the need to increase their qualifications and competencies, as well as to create new study programs that are in demand. This is where innovative value is created \u2013 while looking for optimal costs, as well as offering a higher level of education. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Our postgraduate programs introduce students to the main areas of management at various levels of organizations and institutions. They are able to equip them with the full competencies necessary to perform management and leadership functions. Certainly, we can appreciate the programs offered by excellent schools, such as Harvard, University College London or Wharton. However, we do not copy their solutions, we only create \u2013 in cooperation with the best scientists and people from business practice, using the intellectual potential of our staff \u2013 our own innovative educational paths that take into account the latest achievements and trends of the current market. Therefore, I consider our solutions in the field of education to be important and comparable to the standards of foreign universities, as we cooperate with both Slovak and foreign universities and institutions to improve the quality of the educational process of the studies we provide.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We are constantly observing an intensive increase in the number of applicants for postgraduate study programs in various areas offered by us. This is a consequence of the already mentioned innovation of the values offered to students, as well as the high evaluation of this program by graduates.<\/p>

The very idea of launching these programs was not innovative and resulted from the adaptation of the surrounding competition and demand. However, the emergence of authorial programs, in which we have combined theoretical knowledge with practice, has allowed us to gain a significant competitive advantage. This is evidenced by the share of our postgraduate studies on the Slovak market, which is not measured by the number of their graduates but by the quality of the studies provided, in other words, our Institute focuses on quality and not quantity. <\/p>

If we take a deeper look at the reasons for this success, I would point out above all the adaptation of teaching to the surrounding environment, the use of the most up-to-date study materials, scientific knowledge and quality teachers, who deserve a huge thank you for their pedagogical zeal. What is the value of an MBA and other studies in general? <\/i><\/span><\/p>

For some, an MBA or other type of study has value only in the certificates or degree obtained. If this were really the case, it would not be a good investment. The benefits of these prestigious studies are much more ambitious. In addition to the formal, increase in qualifications and new knowledge, it is also the acquisition of new contacts, impulses for employment or business, and last but not least, it is also the output of the study in the form of a final thesis, which our supervisors direct together with students so that it is truly beneficial. Our programs focus on all these aspects. An interesting view is also the possibility of getting a new employee, employer or contract thanks to new contacts in the group of students. How do these professional studies differ from classic academic studies? <\/i><\/b><\/p>

There are several differences. In addition to the approach to students and the support of networking, it is mainly a consistent orientation towards practice. Classical academic studies are more theoretically focused and students are not required to confront theory with practice or apply it immediately. In professional studies, it is assumed that the student is already professionally established, usually in a higher managerial\/legal position, and applies the acquired knowledge for this practice. Therefore, the study is practically oriented and is very effective due to the workload of students. Because it is a professional education, this degree is not registered in the ID card. According to the currently valid legislation, only academic studies can be enrolled in the OP. Why are there so big differences in prices for studies and why do some competitors have lower prices? <\/i><\/b><\/p>

It’s simple, lower quality costs less money. The lowest prices are provided by agencies providing online recordings of older courses that have already taken place. These save a lot of money on the work of lecturers, but these studies without contact with the lecturer and other students are completely contrary to the essence of these studies. Our studies are not the cheapest on the market, but they are not the most expensive, but they have an unbeatable price-quality ratio, because we optimally combine quality with efficiency. The biggest costs of study are fees that the Institute pays such as foreign accreditations, licenses, fees for the academic community, staffing, premises and, last but not least, other overhead costs. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious about the prices for individual studies, when an exorbitant or low price may indicate ambiguities. What is the difference between the documents issued by you and other Slovak entities? <\/i><\/b><\/p>

The answer to this question is complex, because there are many aspects, but in simplicity \u2013 abroad, as well as in our country, they have their own education system and control its quality \u2013 individual schools are accredited (the same is true in Slovakia for academic studies). Such studies outside their home country are usually provided to a limited extent or not at all (this is defined by accreditations in the given country). However, the fact that it is a foreign university does not mean that it has full accreditation, just as in Slovakia not every school is accredited for all types of studies. In professional studies, it is important to know who provides these studies and what (foreign) partners the institution that provides professional studies in Slovakia has. Many Slovak institutions provide this type of study without any relevant foreign partners, and therefore their issued documents on the completion of studies do not have much credibility in our country as well as abroad. Slovak laws do not address or guarantee foreign studies (degrees) \u2013 MBA, LL.M., etc. degrees thus stand outside the national accreditation system and are called so-called “professional education” \u2013 their provision is basically not limited by law. Such studies can then be provided by virtually anyone. In addition to serious schools that respect the seriousness of these studies, this is also used by various organizations that only benefit from the prestige of these studies and their high prices, without the study corresponding to the relevant education.<\/p>

We provide postgraduate studies on the basis of several independent accreditation certificates granted by foreign institutions and universities, which are authorized to provide this type of study on the basis of the relevant laws in their domestic countries and are authorized to expand their activities, through a foreign partner, in another country. All programs we provide undergo the same internal validation through our foreign partners as Slovak accredited study programs at universities, thus ensuring the high quality and credibility of this form of study. Our documents on the completion of postgraduate studies are issued in cooperation with our foreign partners, who are authorized to provide these studies on the basis of their respective laws, and therefore the graduate has internationally recognized documents in Slovak and English in his hands. We are constantly trying to progress, and this is proof that we have developed a Development and Mission Strategy that we adhere to. In other words, the Educational Institute Ko\u0161ice has created various tools for the creation and practice of quality studies, which are close to the standards of universities in Slovakia, such as the already mentioned Development Strategy and Mission, various directives and regulations, the Program Committee and the Commission for the Quality of Education, the Board of Directors of the Institute, student organizations, student self-government, student practice, courier counseling, the office for student affairs and much more.
