Student self-government

The origins of student self-government date back to 1957, when the first independent student parliament was created, following the example of similar organizations operating in Sweden.

Student self-government has a structure similar to that of a university. The Council of the Student Government Institution is an internal stakeholder of the Educational Institute Košice, which co-creates the internal regulations of the institution’s functioning, the distribution of funds and study programmes, and its members sit in the Senate and the Director’s College.

One of the most important tasks of the Council of a student self-government institution is co-decision-making together with the management of the institution and the distribution of funds obtained from the subsidy of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. These funds are later used for various scholarships, grants and student purposes. With the participation of students, program and study regulations are also adopted.
