The Master of Science (MSc.) with a focus on psychology is a prestigious professional study for people who want to better understand psychological experience, behavior and reactions to stressful or traumatic events. It combines the knowledge of psychology, psychiatry and cognitive science with the topics of crisis intervention, psychohygiene, addictions and work with clients. An important part is also the awareness of the limits of one’s own competence, ethical communication and cooperation with other professionals.
The program is intended mainly for graduates of psychology, humanities and health sciences and can be beneficial for professionals in healthcare, social services, education, crisis assistance, non-profit organizations, correctional facilities or in the management of teams of helping professions. It will be used by people who meet clients or employees after serious life events, long-term stress, addictions or psychological difficulties. Professional study in itself does not entitle to diagnostics, psychotherapy or other regulated health activities without appropriate qualifications.
The study plan includes an introduction to psychology and psychiatry, cognitive science, human personality, emotional intelligence, addiction and codependency issues, psychiatry in practice and a practical view of psychotraumatology. Psychohygiene techniques and occupational health protection draw attention to the prevention of overload in both clients and helping professionals. Ethics in working with clients and GDPR support the safe handling of sensitive information. Crisis communication, leadership, teams, motivation and coaching approach expand the application of knowledge in organizations and multidisciplinary cooperation.
Help after a traumatic or crisis event has several levels – from safe communication, social support and psychological first aid to specialized clinical care. A professional needs to know what belongs to his role, when to consult the situation and when to recommend the client to another specialist. It is important not to pathologize common reactions to an extraordinary burden and at the same time not to overlook a serious risk. Therefore, the program promotes a trauma-sensitive approach, respect for individual differences and cooperation in a network of services instead of inadequate promises or universal procedures.

TITLE AFTER THE NAME MSc.
The graduate should be more sensitive in recognizing the manifestations of psychological stress, understand the basic connections between emotions, cognition, behavior and the environment, and be able to communicate appropriately in a difficult situation. The knowledge can be used to support clients within their professional role, create preventive programs, lead a team, set up psychohygiene or coordinate follow-up professional assistance. The methodology of the final thesis allows for the processing of a specific topic from practice systematically, with respect for ethics and available knowledge. The program thus connects human understanding with professional responsibility and care for mental resilience.

GRADUATE PROFILE
A graduate of the MSc. program understands the basic psychological, psychiatric, cognitive and psychotraumatological contexts of behavior, experience, burden and traumatic events. He/she is able to sensitively recognize manifestations of psychological stress, addictions or crisis situations, communicate appropriately and take into account the importance of mental hygiene, emotional intelligence and a safe environment. When working with clients or teams, he/she acts ethically, protects sensitive data and cooperates with other professionals. He/she uses the acquired knowledge within the limits of his/her qualifications and can determine when it is necessary to refer a person to a qualified medical or psychological professional.
